Michele Cortegiani was an Italian painter of seascapes inspired by his native Sicily, followed by views of Tunisia, female portraits and genre subjects. A landscape painter, he painted harbor views of Palermo, seascapes and frescoes of churches and theaters. In 1900, he moved to Tunis, where he became a private painting teacher. He took part in the Salon Tunisien fine arts exhibitions. His stay was marked by a brilliant local career, during which he painted frescoes for the city's Casino and Théâtre Municipal.
